Florence Given

Florence Given is a British feminist and illustrator, aiming to merge her two passions by addressing social issues through her slogan designs. Becoming hugely popular on Instagram, Given now hopes that her content can empower women to embrace their sexuality and speak out against toxic patriarchal ideals, such as slut-shaming.

Through her rise to social media fame, Given was offered the opportunity to design official merchandise for singer Rita Ora’s 2018 European tour. The designs she created for Rita’s Girls Tour boosted Given’s visibility considerably.

After realising the high praise and demand her tour merchandise received, Given decided to create her own company, Floss. The boutique sells T-shirts, bags, prints and phone cases all displayed in bright colours and printed with Given’s influential designs. All products sold on her website are also vegan approved, created with organic cotton and vegan ink.

Although only 20 years old, Given is now the author and illustrator of the book Women Don’t Owe You Pretty, published in June 2020. The book is based on lessons that she wished someone had taught her at a younger age and is promoted as an accessible introduction to feminism. Given touches on mental health and body image in order to give an authentic account of her adolescence and to ultimately explain that women do not owe it to anyone to be pretty.

Given has also created her own self-published magazine, Don’t call me baby, which features her designs and photography. She has also fronted campaigns for Tinder and has been named Cosmopolitan’s Influencer of the Year for 2019.

As of August 3, 2020, she has a following of 506k on Instagram and growing, and uses this platform as well as her Twitter to raise awareness of issues of sexuality, race and gender.
